Saint Benjamin : Holding Gabriel (2023)
" "Saint Benjamin : Holding Gabriel" is a portrait of myself in my wheelchair, reflecting on the lovers I have in my life that are non human, yet have a source of humanness about them - as another pillar of crip scripture (the presence and power of joy in access). It looks at the idea of traditional saints painted with their human lovers, and crips that narrative by posing myself as a saint with my saviour - one of my disability aids, my wheelchair named Benjamin. For me, there is no "universal love" without a narrative around disability and our relationship to every element of our lives as crips, including the intimate relationship we have with our access needs and that which aids them.
